From some policeman
and a Moral (G.K. Chesterton)
The writer of the essay tells us about a personal account of his counter with two policemen. One day he was wandering in a forest. It was holiday. He was in happy mood. He had small Swedish knife in his hand. He began to throw his knife at a tree. He could not hit the tree because he was not a good shot. Suddenly two policemen came there. They asked the silly and rough question from the writer.
The policemen asked the writer his name,
address, religious and the name of his cat. They accused the writer of damaging
the tree with the knife and showed their interest to arrest him. But the writer
was released when he told them that he was a journalist. Unfortunately the
behavior of our police is also the same. Our police also check people at the
public places like as the policemen checked, Chesterton,. They often threat and
insult the people who come there for an ordinary walk. Our police are quite
rude and harsh when they raid private places. They do not show any regard even
to women, children and old people. They accept bribe from the law breakers and
criminals. That is why the crime rate in our country is the highest due to
defective working of police.

تھا۔ اس نے اپنے چاقو کو ایک درخت کی طرف پھینکنا شروع کیا۔ وہ درخت کو نشانہ نہ
لگا سکا، کیونکہ اہ ایک اچھا نشانے باز نہیں تھا۔ اچانک دو پولیس والے وہاں آئے۔
انھوں نے مصنف سے احمکانہ اور گھٹیا سوال پوچھے۔
پولیس والوں
نے مصنف سے اس کا نام، پتہ، مذہب اور کی بلی کا نام پوچھا۔ انھوں نے مصنف پر چاقو
کے ساتھ درخت کو نقصان پہنچانے کا الزام
لگایا اور اسے گرفتار کرنے کےلیے اپنی دلچسپی کا اظہار کیا۔ لیکن مصنف کو اس وقت
چھوڑ دیا گیا، جب اس نے ان کو بتایا کہ وہ ایک صحافی ہے۔ بد قسمتی سے ہماری پولیس
کا رویہ بھی ویسا ہی ہوتا ہے۔ ہماری پولیس بھی لوگوں کو عوامی جگہوں پر چیک کرتی
ہے۔ جس طرح پولیس والوں نے چیسٹرٹن کو چیک کیا تھا۔ وہ اکثر لوگوں کو دھمکی دیتے
ہیں اور ان کی بے عزتی کرتے ہیں جو وہاں پر معمول کی سیر کےلیے آتے ہیں۔ ہماری
پولیس اس وقت بہت گستاخ اور سخت ہوتی ہے جب وہ پرائیوٹ جگہوں پر چھاپہ مارتی ہے یہاں
تک کہ وہ خواتین ، بچوں اور بوڑھے لوگوں کا بھی لحاظ نہیں کرتی۔ وہ قانون توڑنے
والوں اور جرائم پیشہ لوگوں سے رشوت لیتے ہیں۔ اس لیے پولیس کی ناقص کار کردگی کی
وجہ سے ہمارے ملک میں جرائم کی شرح سب سے زیادہ ہے۔
