Araby (James Joyce)
In this story “araby” James Joyce describes a conflict between the imaginary and real world in an interesting manner. In our life we run after shadow and dreams. We live in a world of wishes while the world of reality is quite different from the world of wishes. That is why, our dreams are shattered. The story tells us how the love affects the mind of a small boy. He loves his fried Mangan’s sister who is very beautiful, but he does not have courage to express his love with the girl. He begins to worship her in his heart and she becomes the queen of his dreams.
That is why; he does not take interest in his
studies. But he feels hesitation in talking to her. He expresses his silent
love in different ways. Sometimes, he sits on the floor of the front parlor of
his house and watches her as she lives in front of his house. Sometimes he
repeats her name many times and weeps in her absence. At last when she herself
speaks to him, he is much confused at that time. She asks him if he is going to
araby ( a famous and beautiful bazaar). He goes to araby, but he is not able to
bring any gift for his beloved as the main shops of the araby are closed due to
being late for bazaar. In this way, he does not face her without bringing her
gift. That is why; he thinks that he has failed in his love.

Joyce خیالی اور حقیقی دنیا کے درمیان ایک ٹکرئو کو
ایک دلچسپ اندازمیں بیان کرتا ہے۔ہم اپنی زندگی میں سائےاور خوابوں کے پیھچے
بھاگتے ہیں۔ہم اپنی خواہشات کی دنیامیں ،جبکہ کہ حقیقت کی دنیا خواہشات کی دنیا سے
بالکل مختلف ہے۔اس لیے ہمارے خواب بکھرجاتے ہیں۔کہانی ہمیں یہ بھی بتاتی ہے کہ
کیسےمحبت ایک چھوٹے سے لڑکے کے ذہن پر اژانداز ہوتی ہے۔وہ اپنے دوست Mangan کی بہن سے
پیارکرتا،جو بہت خوبصورت ہوتی ہے۔لیکن وہ اس لڑکی کے ساتھ اپنی محبت کا اظہار کرنے کی جرات نہیں
رکھتا۔وہ دل ہی میں اس کی پوجا کرناشروع کردیتاہے اور اس کے خوابوں کی ملکہ بن
جاتی ہے۔
اس لیے وہ
اپنی پڑھائی میں دلچسپی نہیں لیتا ہے۔لیکن وہ اس کے ساتھ بات کرنے سے گھبراتاہے۔وہ
مختلف انداز سے اپنی خاموش محبت کا اظہار کرتاہے ۔بعض اوقات وہ اپنے گھرکے سامنے
والی بیٹھک کے فرش پر بیٹھتا ہے اوراُسے
دیکھتاہے۔کیونکہ وہ اس کے گھرکے سامنے رہتی ہے۔بعض اوقات وہ اس کے نام کو کئی
مرتبہ دہراتا ہے۔اس کی عدم موجودگی میں وہ روتا ہے۔آخرکار جب وہ خوداس سے بات کرتی
ہےتووہ پریشان ہوتاہے ۔وہ اسےکہتی ہے کہ وہArbay (ایک مشہوراور
خوبصورت بازار) جارہی ہے۔وہ Arbay جاتاہے۔ لیکن وہ اپنی محبوبہ کے لیے کوئی تحفہ لانے کے قابل
نہیں ہوتا کیونکہ Arbay کی دوکانیں،بازارمیں دیرہو جانے کی وجہ سے بند ہو جاتی
ہیں۔اس طرح وہ اس کا تحفہ لائے بغیراس کا سامنا نہیں کرتا۔اس لیے وہ سوچتا ہے کہ
وہ محبت میں نا کام ہو گیا ہے۔
