In this essay “The Eclipse” Virginia Woolf points out that the sun is a main source of energy and light on the earth. Without it, life becomes an impossible thing. As long as the sun goes on providing light and heat. The earth will be full of life and activities. It is the sun which gives light to everything. If there is no light on the earth. The world will become a place of darkness. All things will freeze to death. In solar eclipse, the sun disappears for a few seconds and the whole world goes into the sea of darkness.

Disappearance of the sun:

The writer says that the eclipse remained for twenty four seconds but all the colors and light disappeared from the earth. It was an end. The flesh and blood of the world was dead. It seemed that the sun would never come into its power again. The sun was hanging lifelessly behind the clouds and the people were also hanging between doubt and hope.

Appearance of the sun:

When the sun rose again, there was a sudden wave of relief and happiness everywhere. The life started its movements again. Farm houses, villages and railways lines became the center of activity once again. The writer throws light on the importance of the sun in the following words.

اس مضمون "The Eclipse" میں Virginia Woolf  اس بات کی طرف اشارہ کرتی ہے کہ سورج زمین پر توانائی اور حرارت کا ایک بہت بڑا ذریعہ ہے۔ اس کے بغیر زندگی ایک ناممکن چیزبن جاتی ہے۔جب تک سورج روشنی اور حرارت دیتاہے گا زمین زندگی اور سرگرمیوں سے بھری ہوگی۔یہ سورج ہی ہوتا ہے جو ہرچیزکو روشنی دیتا  ہے۔اگرزمین پر روشنی نہیں ہوگیوتودنیاتاریکی کی جگہ بن جائےگی۔تمام چیزیںمنجمدہوکرمرجائیں گی۔سورج گرہن میںسورج چند سکینڈوں کے لیے غائب ہوتا ہےاور پوری دنیاتاریکی کے سمندرمیں چلی جاتی ہے۔

سورج کاٖغروب ہونا:

مصنفہ کہتی ہے کہ  سورج گرہن 24 سکینڈتک رہا لیکن زمین سے تمام رنگاراور روشنیاں غائب ہوگئیں۔یہ اختتام  تھا۔دنیاکامادی وجودمردہ ہوگیا۔ایسالگتاتھاکہ سورج کبھی بھی دوبارہ اپنی طاقت میں نہیں آئےگا۔سورج بےجان بادلوں کےپیحچےلٹک رہاتھااورلوگ شک اور امیدکے درمیان لٹک رہےتھے۔

 

سورج کانمودارہونا۔

جب سورج دوبارہ نمودار ہوا تو ہر طرف سکون اور خوشی کی لہرتھی۔زندگی نے دوبارہ اپنی حرکات کو شروع کردیا۔فارم ہائوسز،دیہات اور ریلوےلائن ایک مرتبہ پھرسرگرمیوں کامرکزبن گئے۔مصنفہ مندرجہ ذیل الفاظ میں سورج کی اہمیت پر روشنی ڈالتی ہے۔

"وہ زمیں جس پر ہم کھڑے ہیں رنگوں سے بنی ہوئی ہے ،رنگ کبھی بھی  ختم ہوسکتے ہیں"
