The Necklace (Guy de Maupassant)
The story, Necklace,, points out that women are proud and vain. They are found of leading a fashionable and stylish life. They lived in the life of dreams and wishes. They are found of garments and perfumes. Sometimes, their excessive love for these things brings disaster and unhappiness in their life. In this story, we are introducing to a woman matilda who is a vain and proud woman in spite of being poor. She wants to take party and big functions to lead a royal life. Her excessive wish for jewelry and clothes causes her disaster. Unfortunately she is wedded to a clerk who is unable to fulfill her royal wishes. One day she is invited to attend a ball arranged by ministry of education but the craze of her showing life forces her to borrow a costly necklace from her rich friend. Unfortunately she loses her necklace in the ball. Her husband has to arrange a new necklace on loan. She has to work hardly day and night to get rid of the loan. In this way she is deprived of her beauty and youth before time, and her happy home also becomes a hell. She is much shocked when she comes to know that the necklace which she has borrowed is artificial.
Moral:
If she had led a simple and contented life,
she would not have faced such tragedy. This story, also teaches that women
should never cross the limits of financial position to fulfill their
extra-ordinary wishes.

غم لاتی ہیں۔اس کہانی میں ہمیں ایک عورت جس کا نام (Matilda)ہوتاہے،سے
تعارف کروایاجاتاہے،جو غریب ہونے کے باوجود مغرور اور حسن پرست ہوتی ہے۔وہ ایک شاہی
زندگی گزارنے کے لیے بڑے بڑے فنگشنز اور پارٹیوں میں حصہ لینا چاہتی ہے۔ جیولری
اور بہت زیادہ کپڑوں کے لیے اس کی حد سے زیادہ خواہش اس کی تباہی کاسبب بنتی ہے۔
بدقسمتی سے اس
کی شادی ایک کلرک سے ہو جاتی ہے،جو اس کی شاہی خواہشات کو پوراکرنےکے قابل نہیں
ہوتاہے۔ایک دن اُسےڈانس پارٹی میں شرکت کرنے کی دعوت دی جاتی ہے،جس کا انتظام
وزارت تعلیم کی طرف سے کیاجاتاہے۔لیکن اس کی سکھاوے والی زندگی کاجنون
اُسےمجبورکرتاہےکہ وہ اپنی ایک امیر دوست سے ایک قیمتی ہاراُدھارلےتاکہ وہرقص کی
محفل میں اپنےآپ کو نمایاں کرسکے۔بدقسمتی سے رقص کی محفل میں وہ اپنے اُدھار لیے
ہوئے ہار کھو دیتی ہے۔ اس کے شوہر کو قرض پر ایک نئے ہار کا انتظام کرنا پڑتا ہے۔
اُسے بھی اور اس کے شوہر کو بھی اس قرض سے چھٹکارہ پانے کےلیے دن رات محنت کرنا
پڑتی ہے۔ اس طرح وہ اپنی خوبصورتی اور جوانی سے وقت سے پہلے ہی محروم ہو جاتی ہے
اور اس کا خوش و خرم گھر ایک جہنم بن جاتا ہے۔ اُسے اس وقت بہت صدمہ ہوتا ہے، جب
اُسے پتہ چلتا ہے کہ وہ ہار جو وہ اُدھار لے چکی ہوتی ہے وہ نکلی ہوتا ہے۔
